Unfolding before Alison’s macro lens, all life forms take new shape and context. Nature displays its exquisite delicacy and wisdom, down to the finest detail. Like a dance, an intimate play between life and light. Through photography, Alison seeks to celebrate all parts of life: vitality and decay.
Along with observation, comes the inevitable questions of our own impact on these living organisms, how we affect the ebb and flow. Alison seeks to take these burnt or decaying leaves and shifting sands to create new patterns that worship what is already present and occurring. Her work is a meditation on increasing and building life rather than cutting it away.
Alison Shirley is a photographer, choreographer and pilates practitioner. Her deep love of macro photography has kept her captivated by nature for many years. Underpinning all her endeavours is a great love and admiration for the human body and the body of nature where we hold our histories, stories, wisdom and beauty.
