GradFoto

Monika Makour (AUS), Harry Merriman (AUS), Jesse Pretorius (AUS), Emily Raffaele (AUS) / Curated by Christine McFetridge

GradFoto captures a new generation of artists working in contemporary photography. This exhibition presents the winners and highly-commended finalists of the 2024 GradFoto Award, an annual prize recognising the work of graduating photo-media artists from institutions across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

Launched in 2020, GradFoto has become a launchpad for photographic talent across our region. Each year, graduating artists submit works that are raw, refined, rigorously personal and made at a creative threshold. Judged by Alejandro Acín, founder-director of IC Visual Lab and the curator behind the 2024 Bristol Photo Festival, emerging artists are recognised for their innovation, technical skill, and distinctive visual language and the 2024 GratFoto Award Winner Lê Nguyên Phương exhibiting a multi-venue solo exhibition which spans Ballarat Library and First Site Gallery, RMIT University.
