All my lifetime it was there…

Paul Lambeth

This selection of photographs from Ballarat East dates from a 1992 National Trust of Victoria funded heritage project – the first of its kind undertaken in Australia. The National Trust’s intent was to probe whether the then existing criteria for heritage aligned with community understandings of heritage value. The original photographs were taken on a 5×4 inch view camera and printed on silver bromide paper. A large scale single edition book was produced with these photographs presented alongside poems by Linda Blake. The photographs highlight substantial changes in one of Australia’s most significant colonial era urban areas.
