The Reading Portraits Project by photographer Marc Bongers in partnership with Wangaratta Library presents a collection of images that depict individual’s connection to books, stories, reading and their local library.

Funded through the Libraries for Health and Wellbeing Program, this project attempts to recognise the key role that public libraries have in supporting the health and wellbeing of the local community. The stories that the individuals have chosen to pose with are deeply personal and illustrate how books and libraries can help shape people’s lives by having a positive impact in the areas of physical health, mental wellbeing, and social connection.

Biography
Born, raised and having lived most of his life in North East Victoria, Marc’s experience spans newspaper, portrait, documentary and event photography.

Marc now explores non-traditional and experimental methods to capture and print images, which has gelled with his love for black and white photography, to create the basis for his work.
