Workshop: Photogravure Workshop with Jimmy Pasakos

Take your photography in new creative directions in this workshop presented by Federation University. Transform digital images into traditional intaglio prints in a full-day workshop with Jimmy Pasakos.
 

What To Expect

For photographers and artists of any level of experience wishing to take their practice into new creative directions, this full-day workshop will give you experience combining digital photography with handmade print techniques.

The workshop consists of photography of your choice, still-life, landscape, abstract, natural or studio lighting. An edition of hand-crafted prints will be created from your photogravure plates using traditional intaglio printmaking techniques; plates will be inked up, wiped back and then printed using an etching press. You will be guided through the stages of photographic post-production and image processing.

A comprehensive workshop that covers all aspects of direct-to-plate polymer photogravure printmaking:

  • Processing digital image files for photogravure using Photoshop
  • Printing direct to the polymer plate using an Epson SC P-800 printer
  • Calibration of polymer solar plates for accurate tonal reproduction
  • Exposing the plate in measured UV light
  • Processing the plate and preparing it for print
  • Inking, wiping and printing through the etching press
  • Personal tips and techniques

What to Bring

  • Your own digital photographs to work from on USB or other portable drive.
  • Closed toe shoes.

 

About your Teacher

Jimmy Pasakos is an artist and educator living and working in Ballarat, Victoria. He is a Course Coordinator and lecturer at Federation University, Arts Academy Bachelor of Visual Arts, Ballarat. Pasakos’ methods of teaching at the university are in Printmaking, Drawing and in Studio Practice. Pasakos has completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts, a Post Graduate Diploma majoring in Printmaking and a Master of Fine Art majoring in Printmaking & Drawing.

Pasakos has exhibited both nationally and internationally and his works are held in various public and private collections. He is a Print Council of Australia committee member and founder and facilitator of the Goldfields Printmakers.
