The Survivors

Stuart Brightwell

An ongoing effort to notice, acknowledge and document ’survivor trees’; those which continue to withstand ongoing change in the surrounding landscape.

Despite pressures of agriculture, forestry, climate change and other efforts to tame, these giants continue to stand tall and noble. They are silent, brave witnesses to each second. Shaped and twisted into a map of what once was, and a semaphore of what is still to pass.

If asked, what fascinating stories might they impart? What wisdom would the survivors wish to convey to future generations?

Biography
An Australian landscape and documentary photographer. Through my photography, I seek to evoke a sense of insignificance, diminishing the observer. The Australian landscape with its sheer geographic and chronologic scale, and those who inhabit its extents allow me to illustrate this narrative.
