Ballarat International Foto Biennale acknowledges that we are meeting, creating and working on the traditional land of the Wadawurrung and and Dja Dja Wurrung People. We recognise and respect their cultural heritage beliefs and relationship with the land. We pay our respects to the Elders past, present and future.

Bronwyn Kidd wins the 2025 $15,000 Martin Kantor Portrait Prize

Congratulations to Bronwyn Kidd, the winner of the 2025 Martin Kantor Portrait Prize. Bronwyn’s portrait of renowned photographer Polly Borland won the judges’ hearts with its emotive connection and layering technique.

 

“This portrait is homage and exchange, intimate and engaged. Polly costumed as a silhouette beneath flying cape conjures the super-heroic, the oracle, trickster—all herself. 
In the quiet studio, with light honed to the exact timbre of our friendship, we built this portrait in awareness of beloved past technologies; originally shot on negative, I scanned the film, retouched, leaving tape marks intact as evidence of process, then made negatives and printed them in the darkroom.”

The exhibition of 2025 finalists is presented at the Ballarat International Foto Biennale and included with a Festival Pass ticket.
