Retroactive Documents—Time is not a Line

Stephen Hennessy

Stephen Hennessy’s photography practice involves two key themes and strategies that deal with how archive, time and memory affects our perception of images.

Group One Photographs are New Grid Collages from the ongoing Retroactive Documents project 2021 – 2024. The single image from archive or photo roll can be mobilised by repetition creating fascinating colour-rich images of repeating patterns of urban and contemporary experiences…

Group Two Photographs are from the ‘Bivouac Series’ 2022. In these images time is impressed and negated in scenes which appear to be temporary structures set up against the flow of time forming intriguing solarised images.
