When the shifting containment of memory is poked and prodded by a place, its smell, its pace or even the tone of its lighting plays with the chronology and weightage of the memory itself. This creates a continually evolving personal timeline that lends itself to the creation of one’s identity. The relationship of this personal experience intertwined with that of a communal past, present and future becomes the representation of one’s identity. Explored through the lens of two practitioners, Palawa artist Jody Haines and Debasish Mukherjee working from New Delhi, this exhibition negotiates this relationship of memory and identity.
