Up Close and … is a photographic collection from individual artists who attend Arthur Creative’s photography workshops on a weekly basis. The aspiring photographers in this exhibition capture photos that bring out subjects from the everyday environments, often by looking at the ordinary to find surprising and unexpected treasures. The artists love to get out and about around the local areas of Ballarat and during the colder days set up photo shoots in the studio.
The artists have been critiquing their work each week and discovering the impact photography can have by evoking feelings or memories. Their creations explore natural and man-made objects, still life and portraiture, street photography and reflections have been a themes revisited of late.
The artists from this collective practice other art forms at Arthur Creative, including fine arts, ceramics, screen printing, music and performing arts.
Arthur Creative is an arts-based workshop program for emerging and established artists with disability and is the creative division of Melba Support Services.
Hope you enjoy our art.
