Multipurpose

Brian O'Dwyer (AUS) / Presented by the Art Gallery of Ballarat

Brian O’Dwyer is a Ballarat based photographer, musician and artist. After attending the Ballarat Aquatic Centre daily for over a year, Brian realised how the simple act of gathering at the pool has transformed it into a remarkable and special place. Multipurpose is a photography project capturing the early-morning attendees at the Ballarat Aquatic Centre in Victoria, Australia.

The photos focus on individuals who use the multipurpose pool, designed for injury rehabilitation, between 6 am and 7:30 am. These people have formed a close-knit community, looking out for each other and developing friendships. For many, attending the pool has become a vital part of their routine, positively contributing to their mental health and overall well-being.
