‘Going up or coming down?’ invites you to contemplate the twists and turns of spiral staircases, not merely as architectural features, but as metaphors for life’s own winding paths. Each image encapsulates the idea of a journey, leading somewhere, anywhere. The best thing about them for the current viewer is that we have no idea where they lead. Step by step, these photographs explore the captivating duality of these structures, echoing Yeats’ sentiment: “a journey both repetitious and progressive, where each turn reveals a new perspective on the path we’ve traversed”.
