My Martin Kantor Portrait Display

We received more than 200 portraits from 11 schools across Australia from students who participated in the My Martin Kantor Education Program. These portraits were taken by students throughout Australia during Terms 1 and 2, 2021. The students took inspiration from the 2017 and 2019 Martin Kantor Portrait Prize finalists using our online education program of the same name. For the final task the students were instructed to use everything they had learnt in the program to create a photographic portrait of someone of significance in their own lives. These final portraits were submitted by their teachers to be part of this wonderful display throughout the Ballarat region in the lead up to the 2021 Ballarat International Foto Biennale.

From all of the brilliant portaits we received, we have selected a few of our favourites (many that complement our Biennale yellow perfectly) to feature. Check out some of the incredible photographs these students have taken! This Education Program is generously supported by the Dara Foundation.

Thank you to the schools, teachers and students who were involved in the program. The display includes work from the following schools: Jerdacuttup Primary School (WA), Mount Clear College, Skipton Primary School, Candlebark School, Phoenix P-12 Community College, Woodman’s Hill Secondary College, St Patrick’s College Ballarat, St Patrick’s Primary School, Kilmore, Ballarat High School, Swinburne Senior Secondary College, and Kingswood High School (NSW).

We also extend a big thank you to our local venue partners who kindly displayed the portraits during the 2021 Biennale. These venues were also some of the Ballarat International Foto Biennale’s Open Program venues for the 2021 festival.
