Understanding how plants absorb nutrients and expel the byproducts is becoming increasingly important as the environment suffers from continued climate change. Within this series of otherworldly photographic works, artist Michelle Thompson explores the plant’s ability to grow and thrive in a strange environment.
Michelle Thompson is currently in her final year of a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Curtin University, majoring in contemporary techniques. She loves to experiment with photography and traditional mediums often in the same image or work, taking inspiration from farming surrounds in the Macedon Ranges and from day trips throughout regional Victoria to recreate in miniature, constructed landscapes. Thompson has exhibited throughout country Victoria and was awarded a Highly Commended in the Australian Photography Magazine’s Photograph of the Year in 2018. She is a finalist in the 2019 Contemporary Art Awards.
