The ice caps are melting. New landscapes are created through rising sea levels, and more light is absorbed onto the earth’s surface, further accelerating global warming. A vicious circle. This interplay between ice and light features in this series of works. Photograms capture the transition when ice melts onto photographic paper. Light travels through blocks of ice, large and small, industrial and domestic. As it slowly melts, its shape and form is changed. This series documents the frozen fragments reflecting light, producing patterns suggestive of shifting landscapes.
Cresciani’s artwork explores redundancy and transition, particularly landscapes altered by consumerism, climate change and ‘progress’. His interest is in objects, structures, and the ‘non-places’ that fill our environment. Beauty is found in places of repulsion, neglect or obsolescence.
