Hear directly from Heidi Victoria, discussing her recent publication and photographic series The Show Must Go On, on display at the 2021 Biennale, in conversation with Art Gallery of Ballarat Curator, Julie McLaren.
The Show Must Go On showcases the resilience of the performing arts industry. In 2020, many artists were forced to reinvent themselves and their income streams, passing time until the magic was allowed to happen again. Discover Heidi’s process in creating her photobook filled with portraits of over 70 Performing Arts professionals, with each image accompanied by the subject’s own words.

Having majored in photography at university, and maintaining her passion for her craft throughout a high-profile career, Heidi Victoria is a multi award-winning portraitist who understands the powerful combination of planning a shoot and then capturing the magic. Heidi is the Former MP in the Vic Parliament & Minister for the Arts, Women’s Affairs & Consumer Affairs.
About Julie McLaren
Julie McLaren is a curator with close to fifteen years of experience working in the museum and gallery industry. She is passionate about using art to tell engaging stories and to connect with community through fostering a collaborative and inclusive approach. Following roles at the National Film and Sound Archive, the National Museum of Australia and the Ballarat International Foto Biennale, Julie joined the Art Gallery of Ballarat team in 2009 and has been in the role of Curator since 2016. During this time, she has curated more than fifty small and large scale exhibitions with artists working across varying time periods and mediums including David Noonan: Stagecraft, Becoming Modern: Australian women artists 1920-1950, Into Light: Masterworks from the Musée de la Chartreuse and Romancing the skull
