In Venice – Being There Frank and Anne Carroll present images of the city and Carnivale. Venice is a feast of architecture, art and history confronted by the burden of five million annual pedestrian tourists. This jostling commercialism in tourist hot spots encouraged the photographers to seek out the less frequented and quieter locations and the night-time silences of the empty canals. The cosplay of Carnivale costumiers created a further photographic journey of intrigue and spectacle. This photographic exhibition, Venice – Being There, alludes to the dichotomies that exist between past and present, illusion and reality, and theatre and daily life.
Frank Carroll lives in Ballarat. He likes street photography, landscape photography and night skies. A winner in the Italian monthly competition One Day in Venezia and a runner-up in Australian Photography Magazine Peoples Choice.
Anne Carroll picked up her first DSLR camera about five years ago, broadening her experiences and changing the way she sees things. She enjoys learning the skills involved in using photographic equipment, post-processing, and especially the printed images that record the journey that she and Frank are on.
