Candidly Capturing Now

Secondary and Tertiary classes visiting the Ballarat International Foto Biennale’s headline exhibition Linda McCartney: Retrospective at the Art Gallery of Ballarat now have the opportunity to channel their inspiring visit straight into a street photography workshop led by a guest photographic artist.

Linda McCartney was famous for taking candid photographs of people in everyday settings. Her relaxed and intimate images became emblematic of her cultural era. Through this exhibition visit and workshop, students will be inspired by McCartney and an accompanying guest photographic artist to experiment with candidly capturing the time they are living.

A guest professional photographer, Sandy Scheltema or Jesse Marlow, will guide students through their own practice and provide industry tested tips and tricks to capturing unique and creative perspectives on the streets of Ballarat.

Sandy Scheltema is one of Australia’s leading female photojournalists. Over thirty years of experience has seen her published in world-renowned magazines and newspapers, sent across Africa, Asia and the Americans on assignments to photograph world issues on the ground, exhibit at the Powerhouse Museum Sydney, South bank London and the Art Gallery of New South Wales and be nominated for prestigious prizes such as the United Nations Peace Awards.

Jesse Marlow is a world-renowned Melbourne-based artist whose signature style of street photography has won numerous awards, been exhibited across the world, hangs in collections such as the National Gallery of Victoria and Australian Parliament House Collection and been curated into several photography books.
